The New Islington Bridge proposal is providing a safe link across a void expressed as a new piece of floating land connecting communities as an innovative landmark but also a catalyst for a strong and extended architectural and urban impact.
In response, we developed the bridge as both a structure as well as a small square floating over the canal network acting as:
- a destination gateway shared by both pedestrians and boat people
- a clear distributor of pedestrian movements - echoing the way how streets feed into a town square
- a place from which to watch the canals and the boats
- a place to meet a friend
